The Contained Paintings feature painted canvases inset into either canvas-wrapped frames or, as in the most recent examples, hand-sculpted epoxy frames. In all of the works, the pictorial space of painting is challenged by the extension of the painting outside of so-called "painting area," and the physical gap between what are traditionally referred to as "painting" and "frame."
